Fever In Children And What You Should Do About It

20 Mar

Children are very active beings and because they’re young, their immune system is also in its developing stages. So it’s very common for children to get sick and fever is one of the most common illnesses found in youngsters. But while fevers aren’t always worrying, they do need proper attention and consultation from doctors. So what you should do if your child has a fever? Let us tell you in this blog.

It is common for children and toddlers if their body temperature reaches 100F. But it’s serious when the temperature climbs up to 103F. While sufficient rest and liquids are important for them, consulting a doctor is equally vital. Here are two situations which you can focus on in case of a high fever:

Clinical Help:

If your child has a fever over 101F and is very young, consult your nearest or family doctor immediately. Because children of 3 months and over are still developing, it is important for them to receive proper care promptly.

Emergency Care:

You should seek emergency care if:

  • Clinical help did not work and your child’s fever is building up, or
  • Your child has a fever of 105F or above and they’re complaining of a stiff neck, shortness of breath, dizziness, severe weakness or pain.

These are severe symptoms and will need emergency help, which is why in these cases you should take your child to your nearest hospital.

If you want to get your child checked for a routine medical exam or vaccination, you can always visit JK Medical Clinics. Check our locations and visit the one nearest you today.
